huggable urns

ok, i’m sorry, this is just weird. i mean, REALLY weird. i mean, i want to give people space to process a painful death in a way that makes sense to them. and i’m all for cremation. but putting the ashes in an urn that’s a teddy bear?

that’s what huggable urns offers.

i would expect a good amount of the purchasers are former pet owners. that’s odd enough — but people do some weird stuff with their dead pets.

but if i’m ever in someone’s house, and move a teddy bear to sit down in a chair, and that someone says, “oh, be careful with mom there,” and i answer, “i’m sorry? mom?”, and they say, “yeah, that teddy bear has mom’s ashes in it.” well, let’s just say that won’t be a happy day, and teddy bears will be forever ruined for me (not that they’re in the ‘make marko happy’ club as it is).

ok, so I’m completely intrigued and fascinated by it at the same time that I am horrified and put off by it. Wow. Disturbing!

In a semi-related story, you will soon be able to buy a coffin or URN with your favorite Baseball team logo on it.

My dad had been given the ashes of a friend to spread at the top of a mountain in Alaska where he lived. The ashes of his friend “Bob” were sitting in a wine-glass-like cup on his window sill.

One of the kids in my youth group picked it up one day and I said, “That’s Bob.”

“What?,” he asked.

“Yeah,” I said, “That’s my dad’s buddy Bob.”

Bob on the window sill kind of creeped him out.

I had a great uncle die years ago, he was cremated and to be thrown out of a plane at about 10,000 feet. This being my cousins first time doing this when he opened up the little window, the ashes flew mostly outside but also alot of it went inside the plane. A few weeks later his daughter was quiet sitting in the back of the plane, he asked his daughter what she was doing. She replied “I am playing with Uncle David”. A great memory for the family.

My grandfather died on Monday from injuries sustained in an accident on the corner of Marshall and Fletcher right down the street from your office. I don’t think I’ll be mentioning the huggable urn to my grandmother…

I am just writing to say that I think Huggable Urns are Great in fact I have my 2 1/2 month old daughter in a White Bear. She was killed in Oct “05″ & her older brother(who is only 13 months older than her) LOVES THIS BEAR BECAUSE HE KNOWS THE BEAR IS HIS SISTER.So I don’t understand what is sooooooooo crepy about it.

Lori,

I really hope you meant that your son knows that the bear has his sister’s remains in it…NOT that the bear is ACTUALLY his sister.
